How It All Began
Khaki Thicket started in 2019 when our founder, a former environmental educator, noticed a troubling pattern during family gatherings. While her own children eagerly explored the garden, identifying insects and collecting interesting leaves, their cousins sat indoors, disengaged from the natural world just beyond the window.
This wasn't about blame. It was about access. Not every family has the knowledge, time, or resources to facilitate meaningful nature education. Yet the benefits are undeniable: improved concentration, reduced anxiety, greater creativity, and a deeper sense of environmental stewardship.
Our Approach
We believe that every child has an innate curiosity about the natural world. Our role is simply to provide the tools and guidance to unlock it. Each kit is designed with input from educators, naturalists, and most importantly, the children and families who use them.
We source materials responsibly, prioritise durability over disposability, and ensure every activity can be enjoyed without harming wildlife or habitats. Our guides use language that respects young minds whilst building genuine scientific vocabulary.
Looking Forward
Today, Khaki Thicket kits are used in homes, schools, and after-school programmes throughout Britain. We continue to develop new themes, partner with conservation organisations, and expand our educational resources. Our goal remains simple: to nurture a generation that values, understands, and protects the natural world.
